Most Memorable Moments in the IHS Tiger Band:
Summer Band (freshman year of 1988) — the infamous non-lap-running incident with Eric Warner and Tonya Taylor. Here’s the abridged story for those who don’t know: Eric, a senior, gave me a lap for “smarting off” to him, but I didn’t run it because I didn’t think he really meant it. I admitted my mistake in a discussion on the FB group a few years ago, and Eric finally forgave me in October 2011 at the Homecoming after-party at Angelo’s.
More freshman memories — learning all the steps and commands of marching, standing as still as possible while Right Guides would walk up to us “fish” and stare at us, trying to countermarch in those God-awful white shoes, playing in Symphonic Band during concert season, trying out for flags (but not making it).
Sophomore year (1989-1990) — the spring trip to Corpus Christi, trying out for flags (and making it this time).
Junior year (1990-1991) — flag camp that summer in San Marcos, NOT HAVING TO WEAR THE SHAKO ANYMORE, concert season in Concert Band with Mr. Zender–we all probably traumatized him, but in a good way (LOL), trying out for flag captain (but not making it).
Senior year (1991-1992) — flag camp that summer at UTA, Tonya and I performing a flag routine to “Gabriel” at Homecoming), getting to play piccolo during concert season, spring trip to Orlando (and sharing a room with Tonya, Tanya Preston, and Mandi Katterich–we had a table covered with all kinds of junk food!), spring concert playing the “Stars and Stripes” solo.
